CNN Call to Earth Day 2025 Marks Fifth Anniversary

CNN’s Call to Earth Day Celebrates Fifth Anniversary

CNN will mark the fifth edition of its global Call to Earth Day on November 6, 2025, celebrating how people and cultures come together to protect the planet. Partnering with schools, individuals, and organizations across the world, CNN will dedicate a full day of multiplatform coverage to raise awareness about environmental issues and inspire conservation education.

2025 Theme: Guard Your Green Space

This year’s theme, Guard Your Green Space, calls on individuals, communities, and nations to take bold, collective action to protect the parts of nature that sustain life. From rewilding projects in Europe to tree-planting drives in sub-Saharan Africa, to schools in the U.S. creating native plant gardens, people across the globe are showing that protecting green spaces is both possible and powerful.

CNN will use its international reach to showcase these stories and highlight the impact of efforts already underway, big or small.

Record Participation in 2025

Last year, more than 230,000 people took part in over 660 events across five continents and 107 countries. This year, registrations have already surpassed that milestone, with record numbers expected for the fifth anniversary.

Global Coverage and Special Programming

Throughout the day, CNN International will feature stories, interviews, and reports from every continent. Highlights include interviews with Rolex Awards Laureates Emma Camp, Rodrigo Medellin, and Maritza Morales Casanova, as well as features on sustainability in sport through the SailGP Impact League on World Sport.

CNN Creators: The Intro will air a special edition dedicated to Call to Earth Day. CNN en Español will feature coverage from Latin America, including a special hosted by Elizabeth Perez spotlighting Rolex Awards Laureate Kerstin Forsberg, founder of Planeta Océano. Content will also appear on CNN Arabic, while CNN10, the network’s student-focused news show, will air a themed week ahead of the event.

Honouring Conservation Pioneer Sylvia Earle

CNN’s Chief Climate Correspondent Bill Weir will sit down with world-renowned oceanographer and Rolex Testimonee Dr. Sylvia Earle, who recently turned 90. Their conversation, No Blue, No Green: A Conversation with Sylvia Earle, will explore the future of ocean conservation and how new generations can continue her mission. The interview will air as a half-hour documentary during the anniversary celebration.

Digital and Social Engagement

CNN will extend the celebration online through special features, including an interactive report on invasive fire ant species and a live blog sharing global contributions throughout the day. Participants are encouraged to join the conversation and share their stories using the hashtag #CallToEarth.

Climate influencers will also collaborate with CNN to create custom content rolling out across CNN Climate’s social platforms leading up to November 6.

A Milestone of Global Impact

Reflecting on the anniversary, Ellana Lee, CNN Group Senior Vice President, GM APAC, and Global Head of Productions, said:

“This fifth anniversary is a chance to reflect on the successes of Call to Earth Day, as well as look ahead to the future. Each year, we’ve seen more schools and organizations come together to celebrate a planet worth protecting, and this year is no exception with over 500,000 participants expected worldwide. The growth and impact of Call to Earth Day over the past five years is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when we work together.”
