Hemingways Travel Marks 70 Years with Expansion into Rwanda and Technology-Driven Future

The move underscores the company’s ambition to strengthen its East African footprint and position itself as a continental leader in corporate and leisure travel.

Speaking during the 70th anniversary celebrations, Ross Evans, CEO of Hemingways Hospitality Group, said the company’s next chapter will focus on growth and innovation.

“Our journey over the past 70 years has been about building trust and delivering an individualized touch that sets us apart. Looking ahead, we see tremendous opportunities in East Africa and across the continent. We are investing in regional presence and technology to enhance the travel experience,” said Mr. Evans.

Technology now plays a central role in Hemingways Travel’s strategy, with the company introducing AI-driven booking and management tools to complement, not replace, the personal service it is known for.

Dr. Joseph Kithitu, Managing Director of Hemingways Travel, emphasized the importance of combining technology with tradition.

“The future of travel is technology-enabled but still people-led. We are adapting AI to better understand our clients, anticipate their needs, and provide seamless solutions. At the same time, our role as trusted travel managers remains as critical as ever,” said Dr. Kithitu.

Emma Dansie, ALTOUR Vice President for EMEA and Hemingways Travel’s global partner, noted that integrating AI with human expertise will define the next era of travel.

“AI creates efficiency for clients, but what makes the difference is how professionals use that technology to deliver personalized journeys and reassurance at every step. Hemingways Travel continues to set the benchmark in Africa,” Ms. Dansie said.

For seven decades, they have been synonymous with service excellence and personalized care. With its expansion into Rwanda and adoption of AI, the company is setting the tone for the future of travel in Africa, anchored on trust, innovation and human connection.
