M-Shwari Loan Recovery Is Tied to Your ID, Not Your Phone Number
M-Shwari customers sometimes worry that using a new SIM card or receiving a recycled number could affect their loan history. In practice, M-Shwari manages loans using your national identification details, not the mobile number itself. Here’s how the recovery process works and what it means for borrowers.
Loans Are Managed at the ID Level
When you take an M-Shwari loan, the account is linked to the national ID you used during registration. This means your borrowing history, repayment record, and any outstanding balance are attached to your identity rather than a specific phone number.
Phone Numbers Are Still Linked to Your ID
Each mobile line registered under your ID becomes part of the bank’s customer record. If someone defaults on a loan and later activates a new line using the same ID, recovery efforts can still be pursued through accounts associated with that identity.
Recycled Phone Numbers Do Not Carry Someone Else’s Debt
Receiving a previously used phone number does not make you responsible for any loans taken by the former owner. Their borrowing record remains tied to their ID, not the number itself.
CRB Listings Follow the Borrower’s Identity
Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) listings are also based on the ID used to take the loan. Missed payments or defaults will affect the borrower’s credit profile regardless of any changes in phone numbers.
Bank’s Right to Recover Outstanding Funds
Under the bank’s right of lien, outstanding balances may be recovered from any account held under the same ID. This allows the lender to offset unpaid loans against other funds linked to that customer.
How to Confirm Which Lines Are Registered Under Your ID
Customers can verify the mobile numbers associated with their identification details by dialing *106# and following the prompts.
